Obituary

Leo C. Allgire, 90, of Montpelier, passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at Parkview Montpelier Hospital. He was born on July 26, 1936 in Cambria Township, Michigan to Wilson and Fola (Wasnich) Allgire. He attended Camden Frontier High School and in 1956 he married the love of his life, Shelby Jean King and she preceded him in death on May 2, 2019.

Leo owned and operated the Sinclair Gas Station in Montpelier from the late 1960’s-1970’s. Prior to that he worked for 3M Corporation in Montpelier and also delivered trucks for White Motors, also in Montpelier. Leo also worked for the State Highway garage on Main Street in Montpelier until his retirement. He served on the Montpelier Fire Department for approximately 15 years and was a member of the Montpelier Moose. In his free time, Leo enjoyed wood working and tinkering in the shop.

Left to cherish his memory are his three sons, Kevin (Sonja) Allgire of Angola, Indiana, Jerry (Debbie) Allgire of Bowling Green, Ohio and Tim (Mary) Allgire of Montpelier; grandchildren, Adam, Josh, Steve, Ashley, William, Chris, Anna L., Anna W., Steven, Justin, and Mollie; 16 great grandchildren; and brother, Relmond Allgire.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fola (Wasnich) Allgire and Wilson and Bessie Allgire; wife, Shelby Allgire; brother, Moine Allgire; and daughter-in-law, Pamela Allgire.

A time to receive friends will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2026 from 1-3 pm and 5-7 pm at the Thompson Funeral Home on Main Street in Montpelier. A funeral service will take place on Thursday, October 8, 2026 at 1 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Mike Wilder to officiate. Interment to follow at Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier. Donations may be made in Leo’s memory to Williams County EMS.
